We are happy and blessed to know Pirkko and to work with her for as long, as 30 years. And I can tell it with full assuredness and without any compliments, in the way of fact-registering: “Never in my life, I have met the person who did only good things, only the things which are needed badly and seriously, with such understanding and moral ‘compass’ indication, as it did and still does Pirkko – not in Finland, nor anywhere else. This woman is really outstanding humanist who did so many good and needed things in her life all around the globe, from Sudan to Moldova, and from Latvia to Eritrea. And Israel, of course which is in Pirkko’s special heart. We are learning humanism both daily and in general by just thinking , gratefully, on what our dear friend, this very special person Pirkko Säilä does in her life”.

The chairman of The Rogatchi Foundation Michael Rogatchi joined Inna in her speech, and had presented Pirkko with his special art work created for her.

In her acceptance speech, Pirkko Säilä was focusing on the most deep inner impressions she had had in her life during her charitable work all around the globe: “We all have the moments in our life which are shaken us deeply, and which are formatting us to the serious degree. That moment for me was in Rumbula forest in Latvia, at the place of the devastating 2-days massacre of 25 000 Jewish people from the Riga ghetto, mostly elderly, women and children. I was twice in Rumbula, and twice I have had the same sensation: I just tried to imagine myself at the place at the time, among those women and children, especially children. There were so many of them in Rumbula. We were told the details of that horrific massacre, and I was feeling as I had travelled back in time. I wanted to be there together with them, o absolutely defenceless, so lonely, being murdering methodically, naked and freezing, being marched in the winter ten kilometres from Riga to the place where they all have met their death. I always think and always remember about those people and those children. I dedicate my Humanist of the Year 2017 Award – accepted with enormous gratitude from the Rogatchi Foundation – to those children from the Riga ghetto who were murdered in Rumbula back in December 1941″.

Humanist of the Year 2018 of The Rogatchi Foundation Pirkko Säilä with Inna and Michael Rogatchi during the ceremony

The Rogatchi Foundation Humanist of the Year 2017 Award for long-term leader of The Patmos Foundation At the special ceremony in at The Patmos Foundation in Helsinki, Finland, Inna and Michael Rogatchi had a pleasure to award Pirkko Säilä, long-term leader of The Patmos Foundation with the Humanist of the Year 2017 Award and special diploma. The ceremony had…

[5

post-571","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tw-meta-no-icon
