Michael Rogatchi’s Homage to Melodies of Heart & Destiny special exhibition will have a place at the famous Buonumore Hall of the Cherubini Conservatory of Florence, Italy, on March 21 – 24, 2024. The exhibition is part of the official program of the World Premiere of the MAM Quintet, in which a world renowned guitarist prof. Giorgio Albiani will perform with The Diplomatic String Quartet Berlin on a special occasion of a public presentation of this important project.
The Diplomatic String Quartet Berlin co-founded by the acting German Federal Commissioner for the Fight Against Anti-Semitism Dr Felix Klein is internationally known for their special mission: discovering and performing music of the persecuted Jewish composers of the period in between 1890 and 1940.
The idea and a core mission of Music, Art and Memory project is a creative studies, international education of musical students of a conservatory level in a multi-disciplined ongoing project which infuses the educational process also with historical perspective and the lessons in living humanity.
Born and developed from an idea of Professor Giorgio Albiani, responsible for an international cooperation at the Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, in collaboration with the cultural association DIMA in Arezzo and professors Georgi Mundrov and Frank Wörner from the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken, the project has in its focus the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Nazi massacre on June 29, 1944, which resulted in the tragic loss of 244 human lives in the locations of Civitella in Val di Chiana, San Pancrazio, and Cornia.
The Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken (Germany), Associazione DIMA in Arezzo, and the Rogatchi Foundation, Finland, enthusiastically embrace this noble cause towards the special commemoration event to be organised in June 2024. This involves commemorating the Nazi massacre through the language of music and art, including special commemorative exhibitions and the creation of an Italo-German orchestra that will perform a series of concerts at the locations of the massacres from June 27 to June 29, 2024.
The World Premiere of the MAM Quintet in the concert on March 22nd, 2024 ( 21.00) will feature the music of Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco, Leone Sinigaglia, Fritz Kreisler and Kurt Weil in accord with the projection of the special collection of Michael Rogatchi’s artworks on music and memory. The concert will be recorded and streamed live. Additionally, Michael Rogatchi’s Homage to Melodies of Heart & Destiny live exhibition will be on display at the Buonumore Hall of the Conservatory of Florence on March 21 – 24, 2024. The unique event is part of the M.A.M. project, staying for Music, Art and Memory, which is a special cultural and educational endeavour undertaken in cooperation in between three countries, Italy, Germany and Finland. Among its participants are Cherubini Conservatory of Florence, DIMA Musical Association of Arezzo, Saarbrucken High Musical School, Förderverein Musik und Kunst am Zauberberg e. V. The Diplomatic String Quartet Berlin, several municipalities of Tuscany, such as Comuni di Bucine e Civitella in Val di Chiana (Arezzo), and The Rogatchi Foundation. The project is supported by the German Embassy in Italy and if funded by the Italo-German Future Fund.
